Have you pre-ordered the ASUS ROG ALLY?
I don't have the money, so I can't pre-order!!
Someone please buy it!!
How does it compare to Steam Deck?
I don't play that much games, so I'm thinking of it as a Windows machine that I can play games on occasionally.
What I like about ROG ALLY
The screen is full HD
This is the thing I'm most dissatisfied with about Steam Deck.
The Steam Deck screen is 1280x800, so it feels quite narrow when running Windows. Some Windows apps can't be displayed properly unless you have full HD, so I want full HD even on a small screen.
It seems that games are quite comfortable even on full HD
This is something that you won't know until you actually try it, but since the main unit is full HD and the CPU and built-in GPU performance have improved considerably, it seems that you can play games quite comfortably even on full HD. I was a little dissatisfied because Steam Deck seemed to operate comfortably assuming HD image quality.
The fan is quiet (apparently)
It has two fans and both use heat to dissipate, so it seems to be quite quiet. Steam Deck isn't that noisy, but...
Windows is installed
Ally comes with Windows 11 installed and runs games that run on Windows.
I installed Windows 10 on SteamDeck and hardly use SternOS, so I thought it would be easier to use if Windows was installed and optimized for Windows.
What I thought was a bit off about ROG ALLY
It's quite expensive
SteamDeck is 59,800 yen.
Compared to the 109,800 yen ROG ALLY and the 99,800 yen 512GB model SteamDeck
I often see articles like "If the difference is 10,000 yen, ROG ALLY is overwhelmingly better!! !" but I think that's wrong.
Personally, I think that if you want to install and play games on Windows, an SSD of 1TB or more is essential.
For that reason, I think I'll buy the 64GB model of SteamDeck and replace the SSD, and replace the SSD of ROG ALLY as well.
I think it'll be about 15,000 yen extra for each.
In the end, I'll replace the SSD, so I'll compare 59,800 yen and 109,800 yen without considering the capacity of the SSD.
When you think about it like this, the cost performance of SteamDeck is pretty amazing.
Both memory is 16GB...
Now that I think about it, I had an extra Windows 10 license so I didn't think about it, but if I put Windows on SteamDeck, I'll have to consider the license fee...
Case sold separately
I heard there are campaigns where you can get a gift if you write a review, but it seems to be sold separately.
It's a fairly expensive portable game console, so I would like it to come with a case or cover.
That said, I don't use a case because I leave the SteamDeck on the dock on my desk lol
Do you need an external graphics card?
I wonder if there's a demand for it? ?
I'm also a bit concerned about the PCIe-like slot exposed on the top.
I wonder if you can get rid of it and reduce the cost by about 5,000 yen.
Ah... but if I want to do AI image generation or something, being able to add a 3080 seems a bit attractive (though I won't buy it for the price)
AI engine omitted
The Ryzen Z1 Extreme seems to have the same performance as the original Ryzen 7 7840U, but the Z1 doesn't have an AI engine? It seems to be disabled?
It probably doesn't support it now, but I wonder if it will be usable for AI image generation in the future? Even without Nvidia RTX, the Apple M1 can be used for AI to a certain extent... so I think it would be better if it was compatible.
There are other options besides ROG ALLY...
AOKZOE A1 PRO
Ryzen 7 Equipped with a 7840U, a 1920x1200 display, USB ports on both the top and bottom of the unit, 32GB of memory, and a price of less than 120,000 yen (crowdfunding price) is quite attractive.

The only drawbacks are that it doesn't have buttons on the back and the unit is quite bulky.
It seems that it will be around 140,000 yen for general sale, so Personally, I think it's a bit tough...
There are several other models with the older generation Ryzen 6800U, but judging from the benchmark results, there doesn't seem to be much difference between them and the new model, so I think it might be worth it if the new model becomes cheaper when it is released.
Conclusion
I wrote down what I felt to calm my desire for material things.
In conclusion...
I want it!!
Writing a blog won't solve anything...
When I tried to update, I was shocked to see that it was under maintenance (there were duplicate articles...
