"Pepper-kun" is a humanoid emotion recognition robot that can be seen at SoftBank shops and at the entrances of retail stores. Sales have been sluggish, and production was temporarily suspended last summer.
It is not used for customer service in retail stores, but rather for the convenience of moving around and doing something. Many companies probably bought it simply for the novelty of it. In the first place, SoftBank, which developed Pepper-kun, did not provide a clear use for it, and it seems that it was left up to each user.
Perhaps because of this, at the Next Generation Technology EXPO 2022 for the Service Industry at the International Hotel and Restaurant Show, which has been held at Tokyo Big Sight since the 15th, no exhibitors were using Pepper-kun for customer service guidance, but if I had to pick one, Sharp Corporation's "RoBoHoN" was similar to Pepper-kun. ↓

This is a "mobile robot" that is a Wi-Fi-enabled calling and communication medium with walking capabilities. Examples of its use include various customer service in retail stores and accommodation facilities, guidance in public facilities, assistant staff work in medical institutions, applications for early childhood education, and communication in elderly care facilities, giving the impression that its uses are more established than Pepper-kun.
However, it also has a "weakness." Since it is small, about 20 cm in length and weighs about 400 kg, there have been several cases of theft from commercial facilities. It is generally sold for around 100,000 yen on Yahoo! Shopping, so it must be a good way for thieves to earn some extra money.
At the aforementioned , the NPO organization [Robot Business Support Organization (RobiZy)], which supports the promotion of robots, also exhibited, and the reception robot "Shiorin" by THK Co., Ltd., a machine parts manufacturer that is often featured on this blog, was on display.

I think it would be good to put robots to practical use in casinos in the future. Not just for customer service, but as dealers and game supervisors in card games such as poker, baccarat, and blackjack, and table games using dice such as jackpots and craps.
Currently, analog gaming machines with a dealer displayed on a screen seem to be the norm, but

Deploying AI-equipped humanoid robots should increase satisfaction for both the house (bookmaker) and the players (customers).
Naturally, opposition will emerge as it will lead to job cuts, but in addition to the development of AI, the global COVID-19 pandemic and the use of IT in various industries and businesses mean that we can no longer wait. Shouldn't it be the gaming business industry, including casinos, that should open up new uses for humanoid robots?
